TOEFL exam syllabus - Reading
TOEFL reading syllabus will include 3-4 passages with 10 questions based on each passage to test candidates' reading comprehension skills. The passage provided in the exam is entirely of academic standards to test the candidate's proficiency in reading and understanding texts.
Time: 54 - 72 minutes
TOEFL exam syllabus - Listening
The TOEFL listening test evaluates candidates' listening comprehension skills and will be evaluated in two forms:
- Assess the candidate's basic listening comprehension level
- Assess the candidate's level of understanding and ability to receive information.
Part 1: 3-4 lectures
Time: 3-5 minutes
Number of questions: 6 questions/lecture
Part 2: 2 - 3 dialogues
Time: 3 minutes
Number of questions: 5 questions per dialogue
Total time for the entire test: 41- 57 minutes.
Note: Candidates are allowed to take notes and listen to the recording at the same time.
TOEFL exam syllabus - Speaking
Speaking skills in TOEFL focus on testing candidates' ability to communicate and effectively apply academic English. In this exam, candidates will need to complete 4 sections based on real-life situations.
Question 1 - Ask candidates to present unilaterally: Candidates will share their own experiences and present their opinions on that issue.
Preparation time: 15-30 seconds
Response time: 45-60 seconds
Questions 2, 3 and 4 - Integrating speaking skills: Candidates must apply 3 skills of listening, reading and speaking.
Preparation time: 15-30 seconds
Response time: 45-60 seconds.
Total time for entire entry: 17 minutes.
TOEFL exam syllabus- Writing
The TOEFL writing test is academic in nature and designed to measure candidates' writing skills.
Includes two forms:
- Integrated text
- Independently written text
Integrated text: Candidates will be provided with a small passage to read and an audio recording to listen to and asked to give their opinion based on the assigned content.
Time: 20 minutes
Independent writing: Candidates will be given a topic and write an essay on the provided topic. In addition, presentation of appropriate case-based arguments will be required in this section.
Time: 30 minutes
Total time for entire entry: 50 minutes.
TOEFL test pattern
With the desire to achieve the desired score, candidates need to understand how the TOEFL exam works . The test will include 4 parts: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Please refer to the 2021 TOEFL test system below.
TOEFL test structure - Reading
Candidates will be asked to read and understand 3-4 passages and answer questions based on the passage provided.
TOEFL test structure - Listening
Candidates will be asked to answer a set of questions based on audio recordings with content filtered from lectures, dialogues and discussions.
TOEFL test structure - Speaking
Candidates will be asked to talk about a variety of familiar topics and discuss in detail the recordings from the listening section and the segments used in the reading section.
TOEFL test structure - Writing
In this part, writing an essay to make an argument from the Listening and Reading skills will be required and candidates will express their opinions with the support of real-life examples and complete it with a convincing conclusion.
